Job Title: Project Manager

Location: Nashville, TN

Industry: Commercial Construction (General Contracting)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Position Summary:

Our client, a high-growth commercial general contractor, is seeking a project leader who can turn contract documents, project goals, and field realities into a clear plan of action while creating an exceptional experience for clients, trade partners, and project teams.

The Project Manager will lead, direct, and coordinate the overall management of assigned projects from startup through closeout. The role is accountable for safety, financial performance, schedule, quality, contract compliance, risk management, team performance, and the overall client, employee, and trade partner experience.

The right candidate will bring strong commercial construction knowledge, financial discipline, sound judgment, and the ability to lead through relationships. Just as important, they will be grounded, collaborative, detail-oriented, and energized by a fast-growing, entrepreneurial culture.

Leadership Mandate:

Translate the contract, project strategy, and performance goals into disciplined project execution
Create confidence in safety, cost, schedule, quality, scope, and risk from startup through closeout
Build strong relationships with clients, design partners, trade partners, field leaders, and internal teams
Coach and retain a capable, accountable, high-performing project team
Use technology, workflows, and process improvement to create efficiency, visibility, and better outcomes
Protect project profitability and the client experience through proactive leadership and reliable follow-through

Responsibilities:

Project Strategy & Execution

Develop a big-picture understanding of the project through full immersion in the contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes, and schedule
Lead the project from startup through closeout, aligning the owner, design team, trade partners, field leadership, and internal resources around a clear execution plan
Establish project goals, KPIs, milestones, ownership, and reporting rhythms; execute action items and delegate where appropriate
Focus on the details while setting direction, resolving issues, and maintaining momentum across competing priorities

Financial Management, Contracts & Risk

Proactively monitor project financial performance, including forecasting, cost control, owner billings, commitments, exposure, and profit objectives
Understand, administer, and enforce contract requirements; identify risk early and take practical action to mitigate it
Create cost efficiencies through process improvement, thoughtful planning, procurement coordination, and timely decision-making
Maintain accurate, transparent documentation and communicate financial or contractual concerns before they affect project outcomes

Schedule, Quality & Operational Coordination

Own the project schedule from startup through closeout, working closely with field leadership to protect milestones and optimize performance
Lead quality control plan implementation and compliance while reinforcing safety, constructability, and operational readiness
Engage Operations and field leadership in planning for schedule, safety, phasing, procurement, and site execution
Facilitate effective subcontractor startup meetings and coordinate trade partners to support safe, efficient, high-quality execution
Ensure enabling technologies and workflows are used consistently to improve collaboration, reporting, and project visibility

Client, Team & Partner Experience

Build trust through preparation, transparency, technical credibility, creative problem solving, and reliable follow-through
Manage the client, employee, and trade partner experience proactively, with clear communication, preparation, and dependable follow-through
Coach and develop the project team through clear expectations, timely feedback, role clarity, and meaningful accountability
Build relationships in every direction: with the workforce, company leaders, clients, designers, suppliers, and trade partners
Represent the company in industry associations and the community while upholding brand standards in every interaction

Culture, Innovation & Continuous Improvement

Continuously reinforce company core values, leading by example and doing what the moment requires
Support and drive the use of company initiatives, technology, and standardized workflows without creating unnecessary bureaucracy

Qualifications:

6+ years of progressive experience with a commercial construction firm, including direct responsibility for project management and financial outcomes
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred
Thorough knowledge of construction forecasting, cost control, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, accounting principles, and project closeout
Ability to read, understand, and interpret contracts, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules
Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve complex issues, analyze risk, and make timely, well-supported decisions
Exceptional relationship-building, listening, and communication skills with the ability to create and support team morale
Strong command of Microsoft Office, project management platforms, scheduling tools, and relevant construction technology

Leadership Characteristics:

Commercially and financially minded: Connects daily project decisions to profitability, cash flow, client value, and long-term outcomes
Technically credible: Understands construction processes, contracts, cost, schedule, quality, and risk well enough to lead with confidence
Relationship driven: Builds durable trust with clients, field teams, trade partners, designers, and internal stakeholders
Grounded and hands-on: Stays close to the work, digs into details, and steps in wherever the team needs support
Clear and decisive: Turns complexity into priorities, ownership, communication, and timely action
Organized and proactive: Plans methodically, anticipates issues, and keeps the team focused on what matters next

Culture Fit:

Technical capability is required, but cultural alignment will determine long-term success. The strongest candidate will see this as a place to build, contribute, and challenge convention, not simply manage a project.

Challenges convention: Thinks creatively and finds a better path without losing discipline
Leads with humility: Stays close to the work and steps in wherever the team needs support
Builds alignment: Connects clients, design partners, field teams, operations, and trade partners
Keeps commitments: Communicates transparently, owns outcomes, and follows through
Speaks plainly, communicates early, and brings clarity without unnecessary complexity or ego
Moves comfortably between a client meeting, a cost review, and a field conversation
Cares about how the entire team wins, not just whether their individual responsibilities are complete
Understands urgency, but does not trade away safety, accuracy, transparency, or sound judgment
Is energized by growth, accountability, changing conditions, and the opportunity to improve how work gets done
Creates confidence because plans are practical, communication is direct, and follow-through is consistent

Potential Misalignment Indicators:

Operates primarily as an administrator and avoids ownership of financial, contractual, or field-related outcomes
Relies on title or escalation rather than relationships, preparation, and influence
Waits for problems to become urgent instead of monitoring performance and acting early
Keeps information within the project team instead of creating alignment with clients, field leaders, and company stakeholders
Is uncomfortable with accountability, rapid growth, competing priorities, or evolving systems

Compensation:

Competitive base salary plus performance incentive and a comprehensive benefits package. Details will be shared with qualified candidates.
