At Allstate, great things happen when our people work together to protect families and their belongings from life’s uncertainties. And for more than 90 years, our innovative drive has kept us a step ahead of our customers’ evolving needs.
Job Description
The Product Management Senior Manager (Technical) is responsible for defining, delivering, and managing the full lifecycle of two or more complex, technology-enabled products supporting Allstate’s Investments business. These products primarily span integration, data, middle‑office, and back‑office platforms and can also expand to support front‑office investment products as business needs evolve. This role owns product vision, discovery, roadmaps, and execution, balancing strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery in a fast‑paced, market‑driven environment. The Senior Manager operates at the intersection of investment business needs, modern technology architecture, and enterprise standards, bringing an external, forward‑looking perspective while ensuring timely, high‑quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Lifecycle Management
- Create, drive, and execute a holistic product strategy (not limited to software development) for two or more products in Allstate’s growing digital product portfolio.
- Define and manage product vision, roadmaps, backlogs, and KPIs to maximize business and enterprise value.
- Balance tactical execution with long‑term strategic planning to ensure scalable, sustainable solutions.
- Make informed build, buy, or partner decisions to advance product strategy and maximize key performance indicators.
- Lead discovery and test‑and‑learn activities to quickly validate concepts and inform backlog investments.
Business & Stakeholder Partnership
- Partner with stakeholders across Investments, Enterprise Risk, and Enterprise Technology functions to understand needs and deliver outcomes aligned to investment objectives.
- Operate effectively in a market‑sensitive environment requiring speed, agility, quality, and strong risk awareness.
- Serve as the “product expert” for assigned product areas, presenting to senior leaders and cross‑functional teams as needed.
- Weigh alternatives and assess service, cost‑benefit, and risk‑reward implications of product decisions.
Technical Leadership
- Provide strong technical leadership across integration, data platforms, architecture, and operational systems.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and architects, bringing sufficient hands‑on technical fluency to guide design, performance, scalability, and security decisions.
- Lead the adoption of emerging technologies (including AI and automation) where they deliver tangible business value, not technology for its own sake.
- Support modernization efforts while respecting the unique operating needs of the Investments business.
Enterprise Alignment
- Align product delivery with enterprise standards, guardrails, and governance where appropriate.
- Thoughtfully adapt enterprise processes to meet the speed and agility demands of Investments technology.
- Monitor budgets and operational effectiveness; adjust strategies as business and market conditions evolve.
People Leadership & Development
- Coach and mentor product managers and cross‑functional team members.
- Lead a highly tenured organization through change, modernization, and new ways of working.
- Foster openness to innovation and continuous improvement.
- Build leadership depth and succession readiness within the product management organization.
Success Measures
- Timely, high‑quality delivery of integration and operational products.
- Clear product strategy aligned to investment business priorities.
- Effective use of modern architectures, data, and emerging technologies.
- Strong stakeholder confidence and partnership across Investments and Technology.
- Development of strong, future‑ready product and technology leaders.
Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience, preferred.
- Proven experience managing complex, technical products in data‑heavy, high‑velocity environments.
- Strong understanding of modern software architecture, data integration, and platform engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to lead seasoned teams through change and transformation.
