The Department of Medicine is seeking a full-time board-certified Transplant Nephrologist to join our collaborative and high-volume kidney transplant program in a major leadership role as Living Donor Program Director at Massachusetts General Hospital. This position represents an opportunity to lead and further develop one of the nation’s premier living donor kidney transplant programs within a leading academic medical center.
Our combined program performed over 300 kidney transplants in 2025, offering a dynamic and diverse clinical environment with exposure to complex transplant patients and cutting-edge care delivery.
In this leadership role, the Living Donor Program Director will oversee all aspects of the living donor kidney transplant program, including clinical operations, donor evaluation processes, program growth, quality and safety initiatives, and multidisciplinary coordination. The Director will work closely with the kidney transplant medical director, transplant surgery, nursing, social work, and administrative leadership to further expand access to living donation and enhance donor and recipient outcomes.
The selected candidate will provide comprehensive pre- and post-kidney transplant care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including the transplant consult service, outpatient transplant clinics, and outreach clinics throughout New England. The role includes participation in multidisciplinary care alongside transplant surgery, infectious diseases, pathology, and immunology teams.
The program offers unique opportunities to participate in innovative clinical initiatives, including kidney xenotransplantation, transplant tolerance protocols, and combined bone marrow–kidney transplantation for patients with hematologic malignancies, in addition to established programs in paired kidney exchange, desensitization for highly sensitized candidates, and advanced immunologic management.
The Transplant Nephrologist will play a central role in education, supervising and teaching fellows, residents, and medical students. Academic appointment at Harvard Medical School as Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor will be commensurate with experience, training, and academic accomplishments.
