Position Overview
As a Program Director at Galen College of Nursing, you will provide engaged leadership with the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement of the educational program in accordance with the laws and regulations of all applicable state and federal regulatory and accrediting bodies in response to identified industry and community needs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Administrator
- May be designated as nursing program administrator role for regulatory agencies, state boards of nursing, and programmatic accreditors (see addendum).
2. Outcomes
- Ensures students and graduates have achieved the student learning outcomes and program outcomes.
- Facilitates faculty in implementation of systematic evaluation plans.
- Uses aggregated evaluation findings to inform decisions and share findings with stakeholders.
- Oversees programmatic accreditation and provides effective supervision for the academic nursing unit.
- Fosters an educational environment that supports lifelong learning.
3. Faculty
- Ensures sufficient faculty to achieve outcomes and identifies required resources.
- Ensures faculty are academically prepared, maintain expertise, and reflect scholarship and evidence‑based practice.
- Oversees faculty assessment, development plans, and ongoing professional development.
- Screens, interviews, and recommends faculty for hire and mentors faculty in promotion processes.
- Collaborates with faculty and dean on assignments, scheduling, and workload.
- Acts as a leadership role model and inspires a sense of community.
4. Students
- Develops policies for nursing students that are non‑discriminatory and publicly accessible.
- Ensures proper application and implementation of student policies by faculty.
- Provides resources for student services, including alternative delivery methods.
- Manages complaints and grievances procedures and implements continuous improvement.
- Provides orientation and technology support to students.
5. Curriculum
- Facilitates faculty curriculum development and regular review for rigor and currency.
- Ensures practice learning environments support outcomes.
- Ensures learning activities, materials, and assessments align with delivery formats and outcomes.
6. Resources
- Identifies fiscal, physical, technological, and learning resources needed for faculty and students.
7. Governance
- Participates in governance activities and facilitates representation of faculty and students.
- Implements recommendations from community of interest regarding program processes.
- Orients and mentors program leaders or support staff.
- Maintains shared authority with the dean for program development and administration.
- Prepares and administers program budget with faculty input.
- Develops policies for faculty and staff welfare.
- Submits reports to regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and State Boards of Nursing.
Position Requirements
- Unencumbered Nursing License in the state.
- MSN Degree in Nursing required; Doctoral degree preferred.
- Teaching experience in a pre‑licensure nursing program required.
- 1-2 years of nursing leadership experience.
- Experience with accreditation or quality control/improvement preferred.
- Physical/Mental Demands: Critical thinking, reading, planning, preparing, evaluating, and decision making. Minimal physical demands; sedentary work with occasional lifting (≤10 lb). Occasional clinical activity as described.
