DEAN - ACADEMIC AND CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) PROGRAMS
RICHARD J. DALEY COLLEGE
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
Reporting to a college President or Vice President-Academic &Student Affairs, the Dean of Academic and CTE Programs provides strong academic leadership and operational management forcredit and non-credit programs grouped within the colleges Careerand Technical Education (CTE) Department. Accountable fordeveloping and administering instructional programs; faculty hiringand evaluation; budget development and oversight; maintainingprogrammatic accreditations; and strengthening the delivery ofinstruction and the quality of the learning environment to ensurestudent success.
The Dean of Academic and CTE Programs also plays a lead role in grants and resource development for the college, working collaboratively with key stakeholders to identify grants that align with the colleges instructional program needs and strategic plan;writes grant proposals to secure grants; and oversees select grants awarded to the CTE Department. Performs related duties asrequired.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Administration
- Leads the development and implementation of credit andnon-credit instructional programs; directs faculty and staff;oversees academic operations and activities; and ensures compliancewith all academic and administrative policies andprocedures.
- Manages and evaluates programs, working with departmentchairpersons and faculty in evaluating curriculum and instructionalmaterials, work-based learning experiences, and student outcomesfor the continuous improvement of programs.
- Serves as the primary liaison between college administrationand faculty to ensure the integrity of the credit and non-crediteducational programs, the currency of offerings, and theintroduction of work-based learning opportunities into thecurriculum.
- Manages the departments budget and resources. Creates thedepartments annual budget in coordination with collegeadministrators; ensures the proper allocation of resources tovarious programs and functional areas; and a pproves and monitorsbudgetary expenditures.
- Oversees and participates in the interviewing and hiring offaculty and staff, and the provision of comprehensive orientationprograms to full-time and adjunct faculty.
- Provides and supports professional development opportunitiesfor departmental staff.
- Directs and supervises department chairpersons and faculty.Conducts staff meeting and works to ensure faculty receive neededsupport and resources to accomplish course and programobjectives.
- Establishes performance objectives and evaluates full-time andadjunct faculty, providing written and verbal feedback oninstructional quality according to Board requirements and relevantcollective bargaining agreements.
- Collaborates with the Vice President-Academic & StudentAffairs on college operational processes including the facultytenure and post-tenure process.
- Accountable for ensuring departments programs maintainaccreditation compliance with appropriate regulatory andaccrediting institutions and agencies.
Grants Management
- Researches and identifies grant opportunities that align withcolleges priorities and initiatives including CTE and careerpathways programs to obtain funding.
- Writes and oversees the writing of grant proposals and thepreparation of grant applications in response to Request forProposal (RFPs).
- Submits completed proposals/applications for appropriatecollege and district level review and approval; responds tointernal and external inquiries on drafted and submittedproposals.
- Maintains database to record and ensure timely submission ofgrant proposals and applications, monitors status, and track theawarding of grants to the college and department.
- Manages grant awards, developing work plans to implement andexecute grant objectives.
- Works with Business Office on grant budget set-up fundaccounts, spenddown, modification requests and other grant-relatedfinancial matters.
- Provides on-going support to staff of ensure proper grantimplementation and maintenance of data relating to performance andachieved objectives.
- Implements procedures to ensure compliance with each grantsprogram and finance reporting requirements and close-out atcompletion of grant.
- Serves on various college level and district levelcommittees.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree from an accredited college or university inEducation, Higher Education Administration, or a relatedfield.
- Five years of experience in higher education in a teachingand/or manager role
- Two years of experience as a Department Chair, Associate Dean,or similar position
- Experience working and managing staff in a union settingpreferred
- Experience motivating, mentoring, coaching, and developingdepartmental staff as appropriate with sound supportive leadershipand supervisory skills
- Experience with the financial oversight of significant budgetsand resources
- Extensive knowledge of higher education accreditationprocedures, articulation processes and program review.
- Exceptional organizational, collaborative, and team buildingskills
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communicationskills
- Demonstrated ability to create a learning environment thatfosters student success
- Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment
- Commitment to a culture of diversity, equity, andinclusion
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings/weekendsas needed
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, ExcelPowerPoint)
Salary range: $104,775 - $110,000
Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education,knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such asinternal equity.
