Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky. Our continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services and foster care. Programs are trauma‑informed and evidence‑based, focusing on building resilience in clients (ages 0‑18) and families, both virtually and in person. Position: Program Director, Licensing/Foster Care
We are looking for a strategic leader to oversee licensing, training, and foster care programs, ensuring compliance, culture, and outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Monitor data on census, referrals, productivity, and finances; take necessary action.
- Establish a trauma‑informed culture and model best clinical practices.
- Prioritize self‑care and wellness of direct care staff.
- Collaborate with leaders to ensure programs under their chain achieve targeted outcomes and financial success.
- Oversee long‑term planning and strategy for licensing, training, and foster care.
- Communicate and set climate with staff.
- Ensure programs have sufficient resources to succeed.
- Select, coach, assess, and develop staff.
- Contribute to organizational design and structure decisions.
- Build relationships internally and externally for organizational benefit.
- Develop and cultivate new business opportunities for short‑ and long‑term benefits.
- Align direct reports’ objectives with overall business strategy.
- Provide continual coaching and development for staff.
- Use performance assessments constructively to improve performance.
- Balance task and resources among teams.
- Coordinate foster parent events and local recruitment events.
- Maintain program licensure as a Child Placing Agency (CPA).

Requirements
- Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
- Meet credentialing, licensing, and privileging standards as they pertain to the program(s) led.
- Master’s degree in social work or related field.
- Position is hybrid/remote within South Carolina only.
- 3 years of successful leadership experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in licensing/training and/or foster care leadership.
- Capacity and coachability for future growth and development as a leader.
