VP Product Design, Product Creative (CNN)
A senior leader responsible for guiding the creative direction of CNN’s digital products, leading a specialized agile team of visual and product designers, and ensuring premium, brand‑aligned visual assets that support an engaging user experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the Product Creative team, setting a clear creative vision and fostering high‑fidelity design work.
- Own UI‑adjacent assets, including avatar systems, interactive headers, dynamic backgrounds, curated hubs, promotion CTAs, and UI templates.
- Act as a player‑coach, balancing hands‑on design execution with executive alignment and strategic direction.
- Collaborate closely with Product Design, Editorial Visuals, Merchandising, Brand, and Engineering to integrate design system principles and produce cohesive visual experiences.
- Elevate design quality across the organization, providing expert guidance and detailed feedback to maintain brand integrity and narrative‑driven aesthetics.
- Translate creative aspirations into scalable design system standards, working with platform teams to embed the “CNN Look” into the product platform.
- Lead cross‑functional initiatives, including participation in Design Council activities, to ensure unified creative outcomes across all CNN products.
Qualifications & Experience
- 15+ years of hybrid experience in visual design, product design, and creative direction, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates high‑fidelity craftsmanship.
- Player‑coach mentality: strategic leadership combined with comfortable, world‑class design execution.
- Exceptional visual judgment and a track record of providing actionable feedback that raises design standards.
- Proven ability to build and inspire fast‑moving visual and product design teams.
- Strong collaboration skills, adept at navigating matrixed environments and guiding cross‑functional design discussions.
- Experience in news, media, UGC, or entertainment streaming services is a plus.
- Understanding of front‑end technologies to discuss implementation of dynamic backgrounds and interactive components with engineering.
- Experience implementing innovative design workflows at enterprise scale.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay Range: $231,000.00 – $429,000.00 per year.
Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentives, and program‑specific awards.
