THEATER PRODUCATION CO-DIRECTOR
Fall Play & Spring Musical
Battle Mountain High School
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Collaborate in leading Battle Mountain High School’s fall play and spring musical. Provide students with instruction and guidance in acting, stagecraft, rehearsal techniques, collaboration, and performance. Create an inclusive and supportive environment that promotes creativity, responsibility, self‑confidence, discipline, and pride in accomplishment.
SUPERVISED BY: ActivitiesDirector and Principal
SUPERVISES: Assistant directors, technicians, volunteers, and student production leaders, as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
- Collaborate with the co-director and school administration to select, plan, and produce the fall play and spring musical.
- Establish the artistic vision, expectations, rehearsal procedures, and performance standards for each production.
- Develop and communicate rehearsal, technical, and performance schedules.
- Conduct auditions and assign roles and production responsibilities in a fair and organized manner.
- Teach and reinforce acting, movement, vocal performance, stagecraft, rehearsal techniques, and appropriate theatre practices.
- Coordinate the work of assistant directors, choreographers, music directors, technicians, volunteers, and student production leaders.
- Delegate responsibilities and provide appropriate guidance and feedback to production staff and students.
- Assist with the preparation and supervision of rehearsals, technical work, dress rehearsals, and performances.
- Supervise students from the time they report for rehearsals, performances, or related activities until they are released.
- Communicate program expectations, procedures, schedules, and policies to students and families.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, respectful, and positive environment for all participants.
- Ensure that all activities comply with Eagle County School District and Battle Mountain High School policies, procedures, and activity guidelines.
- Monitor student eligibility, attendance, behavior, and academic standing in accordance with district and school requirements.
- Manage the program within the approved budget and work with the Activities Director to identify current and future production needs.
- Recommend, purchase, issue, inventory, store, and maintain costumes, props, sets, equipment, and production materials.
- Coordinate the appropriate use of rehearsal, performance, backstage, dressing, and storage areas.
- Ensure that facilities and equipment are properly secured following rehearsals and performances.
- Coordinate production needs with the Activities Director, Facilities Department, vendors, and outside organizations, as appropriate.
- Promote the theatre program within the school and community.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, families, staff, volunteers, vendors, media, and community members.
- Follow the appropriate administrative chain of command and refer questions or concerns accordingly.
- Prohibit and address harassment, hazing, discrimination, and other inappropriate conduct.
- Complete and submit required documentation related to accidents, injuries, or incidents within established timelines.
- Attend all required rehearsals, technical rehearsals, performances, meetings, and related events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to organize, lead, and supervise a comprehensive high school theatre production program.
- Successful theatre directing or related production experience.
- Knowledge of theatrical production, including acting, blocking, staging, technical theatre, costumes, props, lighting, sound, and set design.
- Musical theatre experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with high school students and participants with a variety of experience levels.
- Ability to establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive production environment.
- Commitment to professional growth and staying current with theatre practices, techniques, and procedures.
