Job Summary
This role supports a client expansion project within the life sciences sector, requiring a Principal Project Engineer to provide senior-level project engineering and technical expertise to ensure successful project delivery of life science projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level project engineering and technical expertise to ensure successful project delivery of life science projects
- Lead project workstreams within large and/or complete projects, ensuring successful delivery within scope, budget, and schedule
- Collaborate with the site, project, and construction teams to make timely decisions
- Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks; implement solutions and elevate unresolved issues promptly
- Stakeholder management for areas of ownership; maintain active communication
Required Skills
- Expertise in using and interpreting engineering drawings and documents
- Sound understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing facility regulations, guidelines, standards, and cGMPs
- Strong in leadership, relationship building, and negotiation strategies; ability to influence, network, drive and manage change
- Demonstrated proficiency in communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills in a matrix environment
- Ability to influence without direct authority to achieve desired outcomes
- Ability to obtain customer requirements and deliver as a concise specification
- Ability to deliver clear messages to stakeholders on project decisions and maintain good relationships
- Ability to independently own a workstream by maintaining a schedule, driving decisions, and maintaining accurate documentation
- Critical thinker - ability to suggest and evaluate multiple options along with evaluating implications to safety, quality, budget, schedule, and potential risks
- Problem solver - ability to identify and evaluate problems, develop optimal solutions, use effective decision-making, and implement
- Ability to review and respond to construction submittals and RFIs, considering site customer input and manage scope changes
- Organized and established processes and structures to manage workstreams
- Must have Pharma/clean room experience; brownfield experience is highly preferred
- Focus on mechanical or electrical background
Education Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in engineering required; preference for process engineering experience
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or similar technical science degree preferred
Required Experience
- At least 15 years of relevant work experience in capital project execution and on-the-job construction experience
- Experience with life science capital projects - design and build of clean rooms and classified (grade C/D) spaces and qualification and validation processes
- Minimum of 5 years executing life science capital projects in a clean room environment preferred
- Experience being responsible for engineering on a brownfield project; history of responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and approving shop drawings
- Experience performing engineering work to design and build or renovate lab spaces
- Experience with at least one $10MM project or a solid foundation with transferable skills preferred
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Located in St. Louis, MO, or has flexibility to travel to St. Louis, MO, and be at the job site Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week
