Job Description
At WSP you will lead and manage design projects in the Water sector. Working alongside the Project Director and Project Manager, you will oversee engineering design work and ensure compliance with best practices and UK regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design management for mid‑scale and complex projects, managing resources, timelines, and budgets from concept through to completion.
- Ensure projects comply with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Manage client relationships and collaborate with engineering teams to deliver effective, integrated solutions.
- Lead client and project meetings, reporting on progress, financials, and addressing technical challenges.
- Drive Safety by Design practices and ensure compliance with UK CDM (Construction Design & Management) Regulations.
- Ensure clear communication through collaboration with both internal WSP teams and external stakeholders to support project delivery.
- Facilitate and lead Design Team Meetings (DTMs), taking clear and concise minutes and ensuring timely completion of actions.
- Continuously improve and implement project delivery processes such as change control, coordinating relevant disciplines through target‑led workshops.
- Handle RFIs, early warnings, and general communications to reduce project risk and ensure successful delivery.
- Analyse, process, and respond to design transmittals including drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documents.
- Review and evaluate quotations to ensure alignment with scope, budget, and client requirements.
- Manage changes and delays, resolving or mitigating them as appropriate.
- Update the design delivery programme, resources, and instructions, maintaining a thorough understanding of scope and design responsibility.
- Itemise scope of services, client briefing schedules, documentation, and assessment against industry standards to improve deliverables.
- Instigate efficiency, appropriate use of innovation, and buildability while factoring design stages with the wider team.
- Coordinate across all disciplines, internally and externally, ensuring quality and overall value to the project.
- Deliver multiple packages and manage the team, reporting to Senior Project Leads.
Qualifications
- MEng, BEng, BSc, HND, or HNC in Engineering, Environmental, or related numerate science.
- A member of an appropriate professional institute (Chartered or working towards).
- Experience in infrastructure programmes and project delivery environments, particularly complex projects.
- Significant experience in project and contract management, including knowledge of H&S standards and regulations.
