This isn't a standard steelwork package.
This is a critical piece of a very complex jigsaw puzzle that will help complete one of the UK's most significant transport projects.
At the heart of the project will be a huge, bespoke long span roof structure unlike anything currently being delivered on a UK railway project. The roof will form one of the defining features of the new asset, using a series of interlocking curved steel vaults spanning up to approximately 65m. Supported by large fabricated steel box sections and tapered columns, the structure has been engineered to create vast, open, column-free spaces.
The structure has been highly engineered and optimised specifically for the project, including wind-tunnel testing and significant structural optimisation that removed more than 1,000 tonnes of steel from the original design.
For the construction team, this represents a genuinely challenging opportunity involving:
- Major long span structural steel erection
- Bespoke fabrication and complex steel connections
- Heavy lifting and complex temporary works
- Tight dimensional and tolerance control
- Installation of extensive glazing and roof systems
- Integration of photovoltaic panels and environmental systems
- Complex sequencing and logistics within a major projects environment
For the right person, this isn't simply another project — it's an opportunity to help deliver one of the most technically challenging and visually striking structures within one of the UK's most important transport developments.
To be successful in this position, it is thought that you will be:
- A seasoned Project Manager, with extensive experience delivering complex structural steel packages within major construction or infrastructure projects.
- Degree educated in Construction, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline
- Experienced in working under NEC contracts, with a strong understanding of commercial, contractual and change management processes
- CSCS and SMSTS certified
- Highly knowledgeable of construction methodology, temporary works, lifting operations, logistics and project sequencing
- A strong leader and stakeholder manager, capable of operate effectively within a complex, multi-disciplinary project environment
On offer is a salary of £100,000, a 15% annual bonus, travel allowance, private medical, pension and other benefits.
