About the Role
Our client, a prominent player in the global mining and metals sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Project Manager . This position is based in Bristol, South West England, UK , and operates under a hybrid model, combining strategic remote work with essential on-site project leadership. You will be responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of complex mining projects from conception through to commissioning. The ideal candidate possesses a strong track record in managing large-scale capital projects, a deep understanding of mining operations, and excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills. Your role will involve overseeing all phases of the project lifecycle, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality. This role requires a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, capable of navigating challenges and driving successful project outcomes. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, external contractors, and regulatory bodies to achieve project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end management of mining capital projects, from feasibility to commissioning.
- Develop detailed project plans, scope, budgets, and timelines.
- Manage project execution, including procurement, construction, and operational readiness.
- Oversee multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, geologists, and contractors.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, health, environmental, and quality standards.
- Manage project risks, issues, and change control processes.
- Liaise with stakeholders, including internal management, investors, and community representatives.
- Monitor project progress, reporting on key milestones and performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant mining legislation and permitting requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mining, Civil, Mechanical) or a related field; Master's degree or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management within the mining or heavy industrial sectors.
- Proven experience managing large-scale mining projects (e.g., mine development, plant construction).
- Strong understanding of mining processes, technologies, and operational challenges.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
- Experience in risk management, contract negotiation, and budget control.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing remote strategic work with on-site operational needs.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification is highly desirable.
