PeopleSoft Payroll Product Manager / Payroll System Product Management
Our client is a leading higher education organization based out of California, looking to hire a Payroll Product Manager on a contract basis.
This is an exceptional opportunity to drive transformative change across a large and complex environment. The #1 feature of this role? You’ll have end-to-end responsibility for shaping Payroll and Absence Management strategy for a sizeable, multi-location workforce. Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years of product management experience (Payroll, HR, or Benefits systems)
- Demonstrated leadership of payroll or HR technology initiatives in large, complex, or shared-services environments
- Strong project management and organizational skills—can balance multiple priorities under tight deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Stakeholder engagement and communication skills (comfortable with both technical and non-technical audiences)
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; able to make data-driven recommendations
- Knowledge of product development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall)
Desired Skills & Experience
- Expert knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM; Payroll and Absence management modules
- Working knowledge of payroll regulations, workforce administration, and union agreements
- Prior consulting, contract, or interim leadership experience

Daily Responsibilities
- Own and define product vision and strategy for Payroll and Absence Management
- Lead roadmap definition and execution for projects aligned to compliance, policy, and operational objectives
- Partner with operations, IT, business leaders, and locations to define and prioritize initiatives
- Oversee requirements gathering, development, testing, and deployment of features/enhancements
- Lead change management including communications, training, and adoption support
- Ensure solutions adhere to organizational policies and regulatory requirements
- Develop handoff materials for long-term sustainability
- Regularly provide updates to leadership on progress, risks, and outcomes
