Organization Overview
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) is the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 6,700 TK-College students across 30 sites. We offer high‑quality academic programs, enrichment activities, and mental health services.
Position Overview
The Youth Program Leader is responsible for leading a classroom and delivering safe and effective learning environments for students. This role serves students grades TK‑8 across multiple sites and reports to the Associate Site Director.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage a classroom of approximately 10‑20 students per staff.
- Provide academic mentoring and homework assistance.
- Lead students through academic activities.
- Adapt lesson plans for enrichment classes and clubs.
- Conduct life skills and team‑building activities.
- Communicate with parents, school staff, and BGCP leadership.
- Engage in weekly check‑ins and staff meetings.
- Maintain a positive, safe, productive work environment.
- Support special events and field trips.
- Attend training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Commitment to BGCP’s mission and vision; experience working with TK‑8 youth.
- Ability to build relationships with diverse youth communities.
- Strong communication and positive reinforcement skills.
- Flexibility in a fast‑paced environment.
- Preferred: one year of experience working with TK‑8 youth.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Spanish fluency is a plus.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; climbing; stooping, kneeling, bending. 20% sitting, 80% walking & standing. Noise level moderate to occasional.
Location
San Mateo, CA (Sunnybrae Elementary School)
Work Schedule
- 24‑29 hours per week.
- Five days a week, Monday through Friday.
- Typical hours: 1:30pm – 6:30pm (exceptions on Wednesdays).
Compensation & Benefits
- Part‑time, hourly: $22.00–$25.00 per hour (DOE).
- 401(k) retirement contributions.
- LiveScan fingerprinting, background check, TB evaluation required.
