Transmission Project Manager/Team Lead – Billings, MT
This role is responsible for leading and managing the execution of high‑voltage electric transmission line projects of all sizes and complexities. Responsibilities include scope and proposal development, project team management, project execution and closeout, quality control, scheduling, budget management, and business development. The candidate will build a local team or leverage existing staff, engage with clients, and oversee non‑engineering components such as public involvement, permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, and construction management.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform client management, project management, staff supervision, and technical support activities.
- Lead transmission projects throughout the entire project life cycle.
- Apply basic project management tools and techniques (project life cycle, client goals, contract terms, risk, WBS, scope, schedule, budget, earned value, communication, team management, change management, project closeout).
- Coordinate with marketing and technical leadership for business development and new transmission opportunities.
- Collaborate with recruiting staff to develop hiring plans and grow a transmission team.
- Build, develop, and supervise a local transmission team; oversee workload, quality, utilization, morale, training, and annual performance reviews.
- Oversee non‑engineering project components such as public involvement, environmental permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, construction management, and other services.
- Lead the QA/QC process on projects and deliver world‑class quality.
- Mentor, train, and supervise one or more PMs, Project Engineers, EITs, CADD/Designers, and administrative staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- FE license required; PE license strongly preferred.
- 4+ years of transmission line design experience; distribution line design an added benefit.
- 7+ years overall experience, including prior project management and staff management.
- Strong client management, marketing, and business development skills with contacts/relationships in the transmission sector.
- Experience managing staff, clients, contracts, and hiring for an engineering consulting firm.
- Track record of cooperative work with diverse teams across regions, departments, and technical managers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 7+ years related experience.
- Minimum of 2 years project management experience.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills (written and verbal).
