We are seeking a commercially focused Commercial Manager to lead the commercial delivery and financial performance of a portfolio of capital projects delivered within a major government contract. Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably and in line with contractual, commercial and governance requirements., Working closely with Project Managers, Design Teams, Procurement teams, Supply Chain Partners and Client Stakeholders, you will provide commercial leadership throughout the full project lifecycle while leading and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors. Appointment to this role is subject to successful completion and maintenance of BPSS security clearance.
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors, ensuring high standards of commercial delivery and governance.
- Act as the commercial lead for capital projects across a government contract, providing expert support to project, operational and senior leadership teams.
- Develop and implement commercial strategies that support profitability, client requirements and business objectives.
- Lead commercial evaluations, supplier negotiations and contract award activities to achieve best value outcomes.
- Oversee project forecasting, cost reporting, revenue recognition and financial performance reviews.
- Manage contractual changes, Compensation Events, claims and dispute resolution activities.
- Drive robust cost control, risk management and change management processes across projects.
- Produce accurate commercial reporting and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Significant experience in Commercial Management, Quantity Surveying, or Commercial Leadership roles.
- Proven track record of managing commercial performance across multiple projects or programmes.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, including Compensation Events and change management.
- Experience leading procurement, tendering, subcontract management, and commercial negotiations.
- Demonstrable experience leading and developing commercial teams.
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, cash flow management, and final accounts.
- Excellent understanding of commercial governance, risk management, procurement processes, and contract compliance.
- Ability to review and challenge project estimates, cost plans, and commercial submissions.
- Experience using contract management and project control systems such as CEMAR or equivalent.
- Advanced analytical and reporting skills, including strong Microsoft Excel capability.
- Understanding of construction methodologies, M&E systems, building fabric, security infrastructure installations, and lifecycle asset replacement projects.
- Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in NEC contract administration and commercial management.
- CSCS Professional or Managerial Card, or willingness to obtain.
