Design project managers oversee one or a group of creative projects for a client or company. They are often found working on interior design efforts, architectural or construction efforts and/or online web design projects. As a design project manager, job duties include establishing the project schedule, monitoring the budget, and motivating a team of creative professionals.
Design Project Manager Responsibilities
- Assign talent and resources to projects.
- Clarify project scopes and deliverables with stakeholders.
- Coordinate capabilities, workload, and resources across multiple projects.
- Develop resource plans using resource scheduling tools.
- Document changes in scope, and issues and risks that affect project implementation.
- Establish project requirements to determine human resources, information, materials and technology needed.
- Establish project timelines, activities, resource plans and cost estimates.
- Provide feedback to direct reports and junior team members.
- Provide on-the-job training to direct reports and junior team members.
- Recommend schedule changes and adjustments to cost and resources.
- Track projects against established schedules, budget, manpower and technical quality targets.
- Track staff skillsets and certifications.
Design Project Manager Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's and Master's Degree inEngineering, Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, Design, Education, Technical, Civil Engineering, Project Management, Business
- 5+ years of experience in design and project management related roles
- Relevant certifications is a plus
