About the Role
Our client, a pioneering firm in technological innovation, is seeking a dedicated Technical Project Manager to lead their Research and Development (R&D) projects. This is an on-site role based in our state-of-the-art facility in Edinburgh . You will be instrumental in guiding groundbreaking R&D initiatives from ideation through to proof-of-concept and initial development phases. This role demands a unique blend of technical expertise, project management proficiency, and a passion for innovation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing technically complex projects, fostering collaboration among researchers and engineers, and navigating the uncertainties inherent in R&D. You will play a crucial role in translating innovative ideas into tangible technological advancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of R&D projects, from initial concept and feasibility studies to prototype development and testing.
- Develop detailed project plans, defining scope, objectives, milestones, resource requirements, and budgets.
- Coordinate and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and project-related risks.
- Facilitate effective communication and knowledge sharing within the R&D team and with key stakeholders.
- Track project progress, performance metrics, and budget adherence, providing regular updates and reports.
- Ensure alignment with the company's strategic R&D objectives and technology roadmaps.
- Manage vendor relationships and procurement of specialized equipment or services for R&D activities.
- Promote a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning within the R&D department.
- Document research findings, technical specifications, and project outcomes meticulously.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, with a significant focus on technical or R&D projects.
- Strong understanding of scientific and engineering principles relevant to the company's field.
- Experience managing projects involving new technology development, prototyping, or research.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and their application in R&D settings.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate technical teams.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Physics) or a related scientific discipline.
- Master's degree or PhD is highly advantageous.
- Experience working with research grants or government-funded projects is a plus.
- Proficiency in project management software.
