Overview In this role you will oversee commercial activity on major civil engineering projects in North London for a leading contractor. You will guide cost reporting, valuations, and final accounts, ensuring contractual entitlements and robust cost control. You will work with site teams to manage risks, change events, and subcontractor payments while leveraging IT tools to improve reporting. This position offers exposure to large-scale Network Rail work and a clear path to shaping project profitability and commercial outcomes.
Responsibilities - support and guide commercial issues on projects
- prepare monthly internal cost/value reports
- produce valuations/payments with documentation per contract
- prepare monthly cost reports for client with documentation
- calculate earned value and project outturn costs monthly
- manage subcontractor/material procurement schedules
- administer subcontractor accounts and payments to final accounts
- develop and manage Early Warning Notices and registers
- negotiate and agree compensation events/variations and EOTs
- identify and manage commercial risks/opportunities and value engineering
- promote contractual awareness within site team and ensure entitlement is achieved
- utilise MAXcel costing system for cost control and reporting
- train staff to use MAXcel effectively
- ensure compliance with procedures by commercial staff
- establish robust site records for labour, plant, materials for substantiation
- establish cost allocation/coding system for internal and external needs
- attend internal/external financial meetings
- prepare project final accounts
Key requirements - minimum 7 years' experience in a UK civil engineering commercial role (subcontractor or main contractor)
