Overview As a Project Controls Manager, you will lead a multi-functional controls team on major UK construction programmes, ensuring robust baselines and proactive monitoring to drive on-time delivery. You collaborate with clients and supply chains to embed effective controls, manage risk, and optimise cost and schedule performance. You will influence principal contractors and clients, guide change, and ensure visibility of progress and cash flow KPIs. Responsibilities - Embed a robust breakdown structure integrating data from all controls functions
- Coordinate and lead estimating to establish a market-tested cost baseline with value-for-money focus
- Coordinate and lead planning sessions to create a realistic master schedule baseline
- Understand procurement and lead times to prioritise material/equipment ordering
- Manage risk processes with qualitative/quantitative assessments for predictability
- Stakeholder management with sign-off on the baseline and regular progress updates
- Embed updating processes for schedule, interfaces, cost, risk and changes
- Influence principal contractor and client to drive delivery and achieve schedule and cash flow KPIs
- Control costs with conceptual estimating, funding stage gates and basic contingency/procurement principles
- Control the master programme with quality checks on client/principal contractor updates
- Lead change management workflow for timely approval of changes
- Identify deviations against baseline using lead/lag indicators and report remedial actions
Key requirements - Proven experience delivering controls in a major project/programme environment
- Experience managing a multi-functional controls team
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, Power BI, Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction and start-up processes
- Knowledge of engineering and construction management
- Experience leading collaborative workshops
- Reliable with ability to work autonomously and in a team
- Strong time management, quick thinking, and deadline-focused
- Highly motivated with client-facing delivery mindset
