Overview In this Senior Project Manager role, you lead major 400kV substation projects within a leading engineering consultancy aligned to the UK’s sustainable energy push. You’ll drive end-to-end delivery, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and maintaining strong client relationships to ensure scope, time, budget, safety, and quality objectives are met. You’ll work across lifecycle activities, support business development, and mentor junior PMs. This is a high-impact position shaping critical energy infrastructure with a collaborative, safety-focused culture.

Responsibilities - Lead end-to-end delivery of large-scale 400kV substation projects with focus on scope, programme, budget, quality, and safety
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams across engineering, design, commercial, planning and stakeholders
- Serve as primary client contact with regular updates, risk reporting and performance reviews
- Develop and manage detailed programmes, resource plans, budgets, and forecasts with robust controls
- Identify, mitigate project risks and opportunities, addressing technical, commercial, and programme challenges
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, CDM, client standards and QMS, promoting HSE culture
- Support business development through bids, proposals and client engagement
- Mentor and develop junior project management professionals to spread best practices
Key requirements - Significant PM experience in transmission and distribution with a track record delivering high-value substations, preferably 400kV
- Experience managing large-scale power transmission or HV substations in a consultancy, contractor, or utility environment
- Strong understanding of PM methodologies, governance processes and project controls
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex stakeholder environments
- Excellent commercial awareness including budget management, change control and contract administration
- Strong communication and leadership with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Familiarity with NEC contracts and UK transmission network projects advantageous
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related discipline
- Professional accreditation such as APM, PRINCE2, PMP or Chartered status desirable
