About the Role
Our client, a leading organisation within the highly specialised naval defence sector, is seeking a seasoned Project Manager to join their dynamic team. This role, based in **Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK**, involves managing complex and sensitive projects related to the development and integration of naval defence systems. You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of projects, ensuring adherence to stringent quality, security, and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical understanding of defence systems, exceptional project management skills, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a challenging and often high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full project lifecycle for naval defence system projects, from concept and design through to testing, integration, and delivery.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
- Lead and motivate project teams comprising engineers, technical specialists, and support staff.
- Ensure strict compliance with defence industry standards, security protocols, and contractual requirements.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and communications, including government agencies, prime contractors, and internal leadership.
- Oversee procurement processes and manage relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines and deliverables.
- Conduct regular project reviews and provide detailed status reports to senior management.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a Project Manager, preferably within the defence, aerospace, or maritime sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex technical projects with stringent requirements.
- Strong understanding of defence systems, engineering principles, and project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools relevant to complex engineering projects.
- A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Defence Systems, or a related technical field. Advanced degrees or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, CEng) are highly desirable.
