Overview As Project Manager at SSTL, you lead constellation satellite missions from contract award through development, launch, commissioning and operations. You provide strategic leadership across engineering, operations, commercial and supply chain, acting as the main customer interface and owning programme performance. You’ll scale production and deliver high-impact space projects to institutional, export, and defence clients. You drive cross-functional collaboration, risk management and timely delivery in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities - Manage projects from contract start to delivery of space and ground segments, launch prep, in-orbit commissioning and service delivery
- Follow SSTL procedures, including schedules, deliverables, management plans, risk management, technical maturity gates and earned value management
- Lead day-to-day project core team activities to maintain progress against baseline and drive engineering delivery
- Break down work into work packages and secure resources with engineering leads
- Communicate with customers and internal stakeholders (Engineering, Commercial, Leadership)
- Oversee major project reviews with clear objectives, inputs, outputs and success criteria to secure customer payments
- Identify and mitigate project risks with measurable actions within the work package structure
- Monitor and control project finances to stay within budget and manage contingencies
- Prepare cost packs to support business development
- Support bids by providing programmatic solutions on deliverables, schedule, costs, risks and customer interactions
Key requirements - Proven project management experience in satellite projects, ideally constellations
- Experience interfacing with customers
- Experience implementing contracts
- Familiarity with work package systems and matrix management
- Good people management and team leadership skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Strong organizational skills and initiative
- Ability to translate technical concepts into schedule and cost impacts
- Proficiency with MS Project and MS Office suite
