Overview As a Programme/Project Manager, you will lead the delivery of a capital programme for a major UK water client, coordinating with an area delivery team of partners and contractors. You’ll act as the senior interface between the client and delivery teams, ensuring milestone-driven progress, risk control and compliant governance. You’ll drive design development, contract administration and supplier engagement to deliver quality outcomes on time and within budget. This role offers impact across sustainability, safety and stakeholder collaboration in a large, regulated infrastructure environment.
Responsibilities - Lead the programme delivery for the area delivery team within the client’s capital programme
- Manage project plans from inception to handover, including milestones and interdependencies
- Own project lifecycle tasks, progress monitoring, risk mitigation and corrective actions
- Write works information and drive design development and site surveys to align with business case
- Oversee contract administration with NEC3/4 contracts and evaluate tenders and contract award
- Ensure quality, schedule, budget compliance and environmental/health/safety standards
- Coordinate third-party liaison (planning, land access, power, etc.) and stakeholder engagement
- Manage design and consultant teams, drive KPIs, and maintain client relationships
- Monitor budgets, risks and mitigations; support long-term business unit development
- Conduct regular reviews, inspections, audits and ensure delivery against project plans and governance
Key requirements - Degree in engineering, construction and/or project management discipline
- Membership of ICE, IMechE, IET, IChemE or RICS (or equivalent)
- APM PMQ qualification or equivalent
- 10+ years project management experience in large/infrastructure projects
- Water sector experience preferred or regulated infrastructure environment considered
- Digital tools familiarity: Oracle and Primavera P6
- Full UK Driving Licence; willingness to travel to NW England sites
