Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning, execution, and successful completion of advanced materials research and development projects.
- Develop comprehensive project proposals, defining research objectives, scope, methodologies, timelines, and budgets.
- Manage and mentor multi-disciplinary project teams, including scientists, engineers, technicians, and post-doctoral researchers.
- Oversee experimental design, data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation within the scope of the projects.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including funding bodies, industrial partners, and academic collaborators across the Oxfordshire region and beyond.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technical, operational, and financial risks associated with cutting-edge research.
- Ensure adherence to all safety protocols, ethical guidelines, and quality standards relevant to advanced materials research.
- Monitor project progress, manage resource allocation effectively, and report regularly on performance metrics and outcomes to senior management.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and contribute to the dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations.
- Drive innovation and explore novel applications for developed materials.
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in Project Management , with a significant focus on research and development within Materials Science , Chemistry, or a related Engineering field.
- Demonstrated success in leading technically complex research projects, ideally resulting in novel material development or significant technological advancements.
- Strong understanding of materials characterization techniques, synthesis methods, and potential industrial applications.
- Experience managing budgets for research grants and industrial contracts.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a hybrid model, balancing focused research time with collaborative engagement.
- A Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline is essential.
- Professional certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are highly desirable.
- Experience engaging with the Oxford academic and industrial research community is a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with intellectual property management and technology transfer processes.
