Overview In this role you will lead cross-disciplinary project controls on high-risk, complex defence and infrastructure programs, shaping baselines and governance. You’ll work with the Integrated Project Team to integrate scope, cost, risk, and schedule, and support delivery decisions with earned value insights. You’ll collaborate with suppliers and finance to maintain accuracy and drive continuous improvement within a highly regulated environment. This is a client-facing, on-site role that values proactive leadership and rigorous controls to enable successful outcomes.
Responsibilities - Lead cross-discipline project controls teams on high risk, high value projects
- Define scope using exclusions, interfaces and dependencies to build Work Breakdown Structure
- Establish performance measurement baseline and manage change control
- Collaborate with suppliers to align contract requirements and analyze performance data
- Ensure scope, cost, risk and schedule integration
- Analyse performance data including Earned Value Management to inform decisions
- Coordinate with Finance for Cost and Cash Estimates to Complete (ETC) and Estimate At Complete (EAC)
- Manage quantitative risk analysis and risk management processes
- Support Project Managers in resource deployment aligned with resource-loaded schedules
- Establish governance for auditable decision making
- Assure quality and integrity of outputs from the Project Controls team
- Foster relationships to enable delivery recovery
- Communicate delivery performance to stakeholders and contextualise progress
- Promote learning from experience and process improvements
- Mentor and coach team members for capability growth
Key requirements - Proven track record delivering projects in highly regulated sectors such as defence or infrastructure
- Experience across the whole Project lifecycle
- Experience in two or more project controls disciplines (Planning and Scheduling, Cost Estimation, Cost Control, Risk Management or Performance Reporting) and related software/tools
- Strong understanding of Integrated Project Controls disciplines
- Proactive, curious, can-do attitude; comfortable in uncertain environments
- Strong communication and leadership with ability to influence, motivate, coach and develop teams in a diverse and inclusive environment
- Desire to build community and professional network beyond delivery role
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant technical or management field or suitable equivalent qualifications and experience
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., APM, PMI)
- Ability to make risk-based decisions when parameters are unclear; flexible leadership style
- Competence in the software needed to perform the role
- Willingness to work across sectors and with a range of clients
- On-site client engagement 2-3 days a week with UK travel and overnight stays
