Overview As Senior Project Manager, you steer large, complex initiatives from scope to handover, ensuring quality within time and budget constraints. You lead a cross-functional team, manage vendor and customer relationships, and navigate change and risk to realize business benefits outlined in the business case. You’ll align with governance, drive delivery through a matrix organization, and deliver outcomes that support Rackspace’s multicloud mission. Responsibilities - Define project scope, goals and deliverables with stakeholders, aligned to the Statement of Work
- Lead resources and coordinate with customers to ensure acceptance, closeout and service handover
- Define requirements, manage agreement processes, and maintain a project baseline
- Develop and update schedules, communicate changes, and prevent scope creep via change control
- Apply advanced project planning tools, manage critical path, and create test and communications plans
- Produce concise requirements documentation under supervision and maintain configuration data
- Create initiation documents and coordinate materials and baselines across project phases
- Report to project authority and PMO, producing highlight reports and stage assessments
- Adhere to Change Control and Configuration Management processes, assess variances
- Identify, assess and manage project risks; implement approved changes and options
- Build and manage stakeholder relationships, including customers and subcontractors
- Create and monitor budget, track costs, and support milestones
- Plan and optimize resource utilization; escalate conflicts and request additional resources
- Leverage Rackspace vendors when appropriate and understand vendor contracts
- Follow project governance, maintain documentation, and deliver contractual compliance
- Extract key deliverables from contracts and communicate objectives to teams
- Lead technical and quality strategy discussions and establish regular reviews
- Provide direction to project resources, delegate tasks, and offer performance feedback
- Ensure smooth handover to Business as Usual and complete project closure with lessons learned
- Maintain alignment with Rackspace guidelines and matrix management
- Communicate risks and issues to customers and escalate when needed
- Execute on the RACI model and translate customer requirements into project actions
- Identify opportunities for follow-on projects and inform senior management
- Build trusted relationships and focus on customer needs and outcomes
- Prioritize project outcomes in line with business strategy and ensure timely delivery within budget and quality
Key requirements - Experience delivering large, complex projects with 8+ resources
- Strong expertise in project planning, change control, risk management, and governance
- Ability to manage budgets, procurement, and vendor relationships
- Stakeholder management across customers, subcontractors and internal teams
- Excellent documentation, reporting (highlight reports), and contract awareness
- Experience in a matrix management environment and handling cross-functional teams
- Capability to identify and escalate risks and issues effectively
- Understanding of Statements of Work, Master Agreements and contract clauses
- Ability to drive projects to successful handover and closure with proper documentation
