About the Role
Our client, a premier developer and construction management firm, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Project Manager to lead significant projects in
Leeds, West Yorkshire . This senior role involves overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility through to completion and handover. You will be responsible for managing project teams, budgets, schedules, and stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of complex construction ventures. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of construction law, risk management, and contract administration. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all phases of the construction project lifecycle for multiple high-value projects simultaneously.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, budget, schedule, resources, and risk assessments.
- Appoint and manage consultants, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring optimal performance and value.
- Oversee contract negotiation, administration, and dispute resolution.
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards throughout all projects.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, investors, and key stakeholders, providing regular progress updates and reports.
- Proactively identify and mitigate project risks and issues, implementing effective solutions.
- Manage project finances, tracking expenditure, forecasting costs, and ensuring financial targets are met.
- Lead and motivate project teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and implement improvements for future projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as PMP, PRINCE2, MCIOB, or equivalent is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in project management within the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a principal or senior leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale, complex construction projects with budgets exceeding £50 million.
- Expert knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT) and procurement strategies.
- Strong financial acumen, with proven ability in cost control and budget management.
- Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing office-based strategic planning with on-site project oversight in Leeds .
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
