About the Role
Our client, a major player in the infrastructure sector, is seeking a highly experienced Commercial Manager to join their growing team in
Southampton, Hampshire . This senior position will be responsible for leading the commercial and contractual aspects of large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring financial objectives are met and risks are effectively managed. You will oversee all tendering, contract negotiation, cost control, and claims management activities. The ideal candidate will possess extensive commercial acumen, a deep understanding of complex contracts, and a proven ability to drive profitability and ensure contractual compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial strategy and execution for major infrastructure projects.
- Manage and negotiate complex construction contracts, ensuring favourable terms and conditions.
- Oversee all aspects of cost management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Develop and implement robust commercial procedures and controls.
- Manage claims, disputes, and variations, seeking amicable and cost-effective resolutions.
- Lead the tendering process, including preparing tender documents and evaluating bids.
- Provide commercial advice and support to project teams and senior management.
- Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor project performance against commercial targets and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop commercial team members.
Requirements
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in a senior commercial role within the infrastructure or major construction sector.
- In-depth knowledge of various contract forms (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, JCT).
- Proven experience in complex contract negotiation, claims management, and dispute resolution.
- Strong financial acumen and experience in managing large project budgets.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation abilities.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
