About the Role
Our client, a renowned scientific research institution and technology innovator in **Cambridge**, is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to oversee its cutting-edge Research & Development and Innovation projects. This role is critical for managing the entire lifecycle of complex scientific and technological initiatives, from conceptualisation and feasibility studies through to prototype development and potential commercialisation. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of R&D and innovation projects from inception to completion.
- Collaborate with researchers, scientists, engineers, and product development teams to define project scope and objectives.
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, budget management, and risk assessment.
- Manage project budgets and ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and dependencies, particularly those related to scientific uncertainty and technological feasibility.
- Ensure adherence to scientific methodologies, ethical standards, and intellectual property protection.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among diverse project teams and stakeholders.
- Track project progress, monitor key milestones, and provide regular status reports to senior management and funding bodies.
- Contribute to the development of new research proposals and funding applications.
- Foster a culture of innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within the R&D department.
Requirements
- Master's degree or PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science).
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in project management, with a significant portion focused on R&D, innovation, or scientific research projects.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex, multi-stage R&D projects.
- Strong understanding of the R&D lifecycle, innovation processes, and intellectual property management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with project management tools and techniques relevant to research environments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritise effectively.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including academic researchers and industry partners.
- Familiarity with grant applications and funding mechanisms is a plus.
- Previous experience working within the **Cambridge** science and technology cluster is highly desirable.
