Overview In this role you will help deliver multi-disciplinary environmental projects within WSP’s PMO and project management community. You will support Senior Project Managers and Technical Leads to keep initiatives on time, within budget, and safe, across a varied UK portfolio for public and private clients. You’ll have room to own smaller projects while contributing to larger programmes, with opportunities to mentor colleagues and shape our Environmental Project Management capability. This is a collaborative, development-focused role at a leading engineering firm, offering exposure to landmark projects and a clear path toward Senior Environmental Project Manager.

Responsibilities - Support development of project proposals including scope, resourcing, programme and budget
- Create and maintain project documentation (plans, forecasts, risk registers, schedules) and take ownership on smaller projects while assisting on larger ones
- Monitor progress to keep projects on track and drive delivery against timelines
- Manage day-to-day project costs (time, budgets, forecasts, spend) ensuring alignment with progress
- Ensure health and safety requirements for site visits and obtain internal approvals
- Assist with contract management and administrative activities to maintain smooth, compliant execution
- Proactively manage change and risk with technical teams to align with scope, contracts and governance
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate and develop colleagues, partners and suppliers
- Champion environmental outcomes, supporting sustainability and net-zero ambitions across projects
- Build relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders, representing the Environment and Consents team and acting as a trusted contact
Key requirements - Experience as Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager in environmental or PMO settings
- Understanding of programme management principles (WBS, dependencies, critical path) with ability to interpret MS Project, Primavera P6 or similar outputs
- Commercial awareness with budget management, tracking performance and change control; experience delivering projects within budget
- Familiarity with Professional Services Contracts (e.g. NEC3/4) advantageous
- Strong written and verbal communication to inform teams and stakeholders
- Working towards or holding membership of a professional body (PMI, APM, MIEnvSc, MIEMA, MRICS) with chartership welcomed
- Interest in environment and sustainability with proactive, growth-oriented attitude
