About the Role
Our client, a dynamic and expanding construction firm, is seeking a proactive and experienced Construction Project Manager to lead significant building projects in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, UK . This is a key leadership role responsible for the planning, execution, and successful delivery of complex construction initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of all phases of the construction process, from pre-construction planning to final handover. You will be adept at managing budgets, schedules, risks, and stakeholder relationships to ensure project success. This role involves a blend of office-based strategic planning and on-site supervision, requiring a hands-on approach and excellent leadership qualities.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing all aspects of construction projects, from initiation through to completion.
- Developing detailed project plans, including scope, budgets, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Managing project execution, ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Coordinating and leading project teams, including site staff, subcontractors, and consultants.
- Monitoring project progress, identifying deviations, and implementing corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Managing project finances, including cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations on site.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Procuring materials and managing subcontractors effectively.
- Conducting regular site inspections and progress meetings to ensure smooth project flow.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in construction project management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes relevant to the UK market.
- Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage complex budgets and challenging project schedules.
- Valid SMSTS certificate and First Aid qualification are highly desirable.
- Experience in managing project risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- A proactive and results-oriented approach to problem-solving.
- Willingness to work a hybrid schedule and travel within the Tyne and Wear region as needed for site operations in Sunderland .
