Overview As Project Controls Manager, you lead the implementation of best-practice controls, planning, analytics, risk, change, resource and performance management across complex commissions. You collaborate with the Midlands Project Controls team to drive programme and portfolio objectives and engage with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery. You shape governance, data quality and recovery plans, translating client objectives into effective control strategies. This role offers exposure to diverse clients and multi-discipline projects, with a clear impact on project outcomes and delivery culture.
Responsibilities - Lead the implementation of project controls across complex commissions, coordinating planning, analytics, reporting, risk, change, resource and performance management
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to support project, programme and portfolio objectives
- Define success criteria and governance to ensure delivery; establish outputs fit for varying stakeholder needs
- Provide SME guidance in at least one project controls discipline (planning, analytics and reporting, risk, cost control, estimating, change, governance and strategy)
- Advise on best-fit project controls systems and tools (e.g., Primavera, P6, Project Online, Asta Powerproject, SAP, ARM, Power BI, etc.)
- Undertake independent assurances and audits; ensure data quality and compliance before client submissions
- Present project status to stakeholders; recommend recovery and mitigation actions
- Foster a positive can-do culture; hold work package owners to account for performance and interface management
- Design governance and outputs to ensure effective communication and coordination across interfaces and dependencies
Key requirements - Collaboration and leadership in managing a project controls team on major commissions or projects
- Experience implementing bespoke project controls strategies on projects, programmes, and portfolios
- Knowledge of best-practice project controls principles and how client lifecycle or procurement strategy impacts execution
- Ability to define success criteria and governance frameworks
- SME in at least one project controls discipline (planning, analytics and reporting, risk, cost control, estimating, change, governance and strategy)
- Working knowledge of project controls systems such as Primavera, Project Online, Microsoft Project, Asta Powerproject, SAP, @Risk, Pertmaster, ARM, Acumen, Power BI, Azure, Tableau, Sharepoint, CEMAR, Conject
- Understanding of NEC contracts and how they affect project controls delivery
- Experience with assurances and audits and maintaining data quality for client submissions
- Confidently deliver project status updates and recommend mitigations to stakeholders
