Overview In this senior role, you will lead client-side project management for major rail infrastructure projects, notably the TransPennine Route Upgrade, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards. You’ll operate as an embedded member of the client team, coordinating cross-functional groups and managing stakeholders to build trust and drive outcomes. The role offers autonomy in a growing SME environment and opportunities to shape multi-disciplinary projects from development through to completion. You’ll work with an agile mindset to mitigate risks and maintain strong client relationships while delivering safe, cost-effective results.

Responsibilities - Act as principal client contact and ensure client satisfaction
- Lead project teams across the lifecycle from design to delivery
- Plan and monitor progress against time, cost, and quality targets
- Foster collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams
- Ensure compliance with CDM, HMRI, and ORR requirements
- Work with Project Engineers to translate client requirements
- Proactively identify and mitigate delivery risks
- Oversee health, safety, environment, quality documentation and risk assessments
- Manage change control and variations
- Review costs, forecasts, invoicing and financial control
- Coordinate project handover and close-out
- Contribute to tendering, fee proposals, resource planning, and risk management
- Mentor and develop PM team through appraisals and training
Key requirements - Client-side project management experience or in co-located/seconded environments
- Broad multi-disciplinary project experience (stations, footbridges, depots, car parks, feasibility studies)
- Proven ability to deliver to time, cost, and quality during early development stages
- Understanding of civil, structural, and permanent way disciplines
- Experience leading integrated, multi-organisation teams
- Strong stakeholder and relationship management, with ability to influence
- Proactive, self-motivated, entrepreneurial approach
- Commercially astute with NEC3/NEC4 contract administration experience
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related technical discipline, or minimum HNC/HND with significant relevant experience
