Overview As a Project Controls Manager you lead the Midlands controls team to implement best-practice planning, analytics, reporting, risk, change, and performance management across complex commissions. You engage with stakeholders to drive successful project and portfolio outcomes and ensure governance, data quality, and recovery planning. This role offers exposure to a multidisciplinary client base and the opportunity to shape project controls delivery in a high-impact environment. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to translate client objectives into effective execution. You will own a positive can-do culture and drive accountability across work packages.
Responsibilities - Lead and coordinate a project controls team on major commissions, ensuring scope delivery and resource alignment.
- Implement bespoke project controls strategies and processes across projects, programmes, and portfolios.
- Apply best-practice project controls principles and translate client life cycle or procurement strategies into execution plans.
- Define success criteria and governance to ensure delivery.
- Provide SME input in Planning, Analytics and Reporting, Risk, Cost Control, Estimating, Change, Governance and Strategy.
- Advise on suitable project controls systems (e.g., Primavera, Project Online, MS Project, Asta Powerproject, SAP, @Risk, ARM, Power BI, Azure, Tableau, SharePoint, CEMAR, Conject) based on client needs.
- Ensure data quality through independent assurances and audits; manage commissions within internal compliance.
- Communicate project status to stakeholders, assess impact, and propose recovery and mitigation actions.
- Foster a proactive project controls culture; hold work package owners accountable; design outputs for diverse stakeholders; manage interfaces and dependencies; establish governance for effective communication.
Key requirements - Collaboration and leadership experience, managing a project controls team on major commissions or projects.
- Proven track record in implementing bespoke project controls management strategies on projects, programmes and portfolios.
- Strong knowledge of best-practice project controls principles and ability to align lifecycle or procurement strategies with execution plans.
- Ability to define success metrics and governance.
- Subject Matter Expertise in at least one discipline: Planning, Analytics and Reporting, Risk, Cost Control, Estimating, Change, Governance and Strategy.
- Working knowledge of project controls systems (Primavera, Project Online, Microsoft Project, Asta Powerproject, SAP, @Risk, Pertmaster, ARM, Acumen Suite, Power BI, Azure, Tableau, SharePoint, CEMAR, Conject) and ability to advise on best-fit solutions.
- Understanding of NEC contracts and how contract detail affects project controls delivery.
- Experience with project data assurance and independent review processes; ensuring compliance and quality.
- Effective delivery of project status to stakeholders and ability to recommend recovery plans and mitigations.
- Ownership of creating a positive can-do culture and coordinating interfaces and dependencies across commissions.
